Principal's Message

Welcome to our school website!

Hunter River High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school situated on the Hunter River at Heatherbrae, just south of Raymond Terrace. In May, 2005, the school officially changed the name it had had for almost fifty years, Raymond Terrace High School, to Hunter River High School. This move was made to reflect the geographically widespread and diverse communities the school serves, from Hexham in the south, to North Arm Cove in the north, and from Lemon Tree Passage in the east to beyond Seaham in the west. Approximately 85% of students travel to and from our school each day by bus.

The school has approximately 700 students and in 2009 the school returned to the Priority Schools Program. The school has significant Student Support Services facilities, including classes for students with a mild intellectual disability (IM) and a Tutorial Centre for students with Behaviour difficulties.

The school aims to give each one of its students the opportunity to reach the highest possible outcomes in all aspects of their education and training – academic, personal, social, sporting and civic. To achieve this, the school offers a curriculum which includes strong academic programs and a wide range of Vocational Education and Training opportunities. In 2010 Hunter River High School will become a Trade School specialising in Metals and Engineering; the school has taken possession of a new commercial kitchen; science laboratories will be significantly upgraded in 2010; and the school is the lead school for a successful Federal Government Trade Training Centre application.

Hunter River High School is a member of the National Partnerships Smarter Schools Program. Our school plan is attached here for you.right-click and select 'Save Target As..'
