Welcome to Hunter River High School

Principal's Message

Welcome to the Hunter River High School website and thank you for your interest in our school.

Hunter River High School is a comprehensive, co-educational school situated on the Hunter River at Heatherbrae, just south of Raymond Terrace. Some people may not recognise our name, because it is still fairly new! In May, 2005 the school officially changed the name it had had for almost fifty years - Raymond Terrace High School. This move was made to reflect the widespread and diverse communities our school serves, from Hexham in the south, to North Arm Cove in the north, and from Lemon Tree Passage in the east to beyond Seaham in the west.

The school has approximately 730 students, of whom approximately 70 are Aboriginal young people. Most of these students come from the areas served by our six partner primary schools – Karuah Public, Raymond Terrace Public, Salt Ash Public, Seaham Public, Tanilba Bay Public and Williamtown Public Schools.

Our school has two mottoes. The first is our traditional motto “Essayez”, which is French for “Try”. This is the one that you will find on our school’s badge. Our second motto is “Quality Relationships – Quality Learning”. We think that our mottoes express values which we feel are very important.

I hope you enjoy exploring our site.
